Proof a hot tub can improve more than your health!

Hot tubs health benefits boosted by medical claims

Immersing in warm water to chest depth changes cardiac function in a way that virtually mimics aerobic exercise, says a new book published by the National Swimming Pool Foundation in the United States.

The book, “Hot Water and Healthy Living” explains how the immersion in a hot tub helps to create healthier bodies, hearts, minds and lifestyles. Written by Dr J B Smith of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, it is based on interviews with leading scientists and over 25 scholarly research publications.

Startling research shows that both the body and mind benefit from the simple act of immersion in hot or warm water. “Our industry has not had the science that explains how hot tubs improve our health and the benefits have not been communicated to society” says Thomas M Lachocki, Chief Executive of the Pool Federation.

Author Smith adds “Our bodies make adjustments when we are immersed in water. These changes are similar to those that occur when we exercise. The changes include increased circulation, more efficient breathing and improvements in mood.”

Survey finds hot tubs pep up your sex life

Another new survey in the United States says that a hot tub may be just the answer to a stuttering love life. The results of a recent online survey found that owning a hot tub dramatically improves your chances of a happy and fulfilling sex and love life.

“A hot tub can be the catalyst to having a healthier and sexier relationship” says Dr Trina Read, sexologist. “Physiologically, the hot tub heat increases blood flow to the skin and muscles and the jet massage stimulates endorphins. The result is a feeling of contentment and relaxation that would put anyone in the mood for sex. Emotionally, the hot tub offers time to be alone together, away from the stresses of the world, to focus on each other.”

The online survey was conducted by independent online research company InsightExpress and commissioned by ThermoSpas - the largest retailer of hot tubs in the United States. They surveyed 500 hot tub owners and 500 non-owners all over the age of 18, and found that 33% of hot tub owners feel that owning a hot tub has improved their love life.

“Bottom line” according to Dr Read, “soaking in the caressing waters of a hot tub is a sure fire way to heat things up with someone special - in fact I prescribe it.”
